Hanging Out in the Art Studio: Resin Adventures!

Tackling the Resin Mix Challenge for Barn Owl Wings

Just a few pics mixing and pouring resin onto a gorgeous barn owl wing sculpture. As you can imagine, getting that resin mix just right can be a bit tricky.

Why Mixing Resin Matters

The secret to working with resin is all in the mixing. If the resin isn't mixed well, it can stick to the container's sides or bottom and won't cure properly. That's when those pesky sticky spots show up on the artwork. There is a sign that the resin started curing, but the project's surface is still, well, tacky.

No, sticky feathers!

Once the resin is mixed just right, it is gently poured over the barn owl wings, creating an even layer. The resin gives the wings a shiny, realistic, mesmerizing look. As time ticks by, the resin slowly cures, turning from liquid to solid. When it's all set, the wings' surface should be smooth. One more coat will be added to give the wings extra strength. #staytuned
